Meet Anouska Hamilton – Specialist Assessment Team

Anouska Hamilton has worked at Agria for the past seven years as a member of the Specialist Assessment Team. Together with her colleagues, Anouska works on claims that need specialist attention, such as appeals, re-assessments and complaints handling. Anouska is also responsible for investigating cases involving fraud, including falsified lost dog claims.

Q. What was your previous job?

A. Before working at Agria I was a Veterinary Nurse for four years. The Head Nurse from the practice also moved to the Specialist Assessment Team, so not only am I still working with a previous veterinary colleague, most importantly I’m still working in an environment which deals with pets, so I am continuing to use my Veterinary knowledge.

Q. Why do you like working at Agria?

A. My team has a strong sense of working together and helping each other out, so the atmosphere between us is always really positive.

Q. What’s the best thing about your job?

A. I really enjoy the part of my role that sees me supporting and training other members of the team. I also love the fact that I’m able to keep fully informed and up-to-date with the latest veterinary developments by attending events such as the BSAVA and BVNA conferences.

Q. And the most challenging part?

A. It’s a sad fact that dealing with fraud has become a bigger part of my job. Handling fraudulent cases is a long and complex process. But because the team handles cases of fraud – such as lost dogs – so effectively, it is rewarding because by preventing such claims, we’re helping to keep customers’ premiums down.

Q. What did you want to be when you were a child?

A.  I really wanted to be a vet but decided later on that I preferred the Veterinary Nursing aspect as it was more hands on with patients, and you get to care for them more closely.

Q. What was your first ever job?

A. My first job was waitressing in a restaurant at Bicester Village.

Q. What kind of pet do you have?

A. I have a very small and lovely cat called Biscuit. She’s tortoiseshell and she’s going to be fourteen this year.

Q. Does your pet have any special talents?

A. Her silent miaows are lovely, and although she’s quiet and a little on the elderly side, she does have a secret talent for football. All she needs is a screwed up piece of paper and she’ll play for hours, and will even fetch the ‘ball’! She definitely thinks she’s a little David Beckham!
