Symptoms and diagnosis

Spikey was attacked by two dogs and was taken to his vet with slight lameness and several wounds around his right shoulder and left flank.

Although Spikey stayed at the practice during treatment, one of his wounds developed into cellulitis with a large abscess and with fat that became necrotic. He was hospitalised for 12 days.

The claim

Spikey’s treatment costs added up to £2,205.47. We liaised with the vet on two occasions during the processing of this claim to gather further supporting information. Despite this, the claim was settled 12 working days from receipt.

A follow-up claim took only four working days to be settled, even though it was submitted over the Christmas period.
