When cover for referral costs comes in really handy
Agria Pet Insurance combines fast, easy claims settlement with flexible lifetime policies – always with a high level of veterinary fee cover – supporting pets, their owners and their vets.
So when a client has their pet insured with Agria, you can have the confidence that if treatment is required, you can proceed in the way that’s best for the animal.
Our dog claim his month demonstrates how quickly unexpected costs can add up and how, when a large bill is involved, it’s really helpful that we settle direct to the vet.
Animal: West Highland White Terrier
Symptoms and diagnosis
Toby was taken into see his vet with lameness but no known trauma. Manipulation found that he was sore on his cruciate ligament and the vet suspected a cruciate ligament injury, sprain or a luxating patella. They elected to try a course of anti-inflammatory pain relief with x-rays to follow a few days later.
The x-rays were inconclusive, so Toby was referred to a specialist. When he was seen ten days later, his lameness was even worse. The specialist suspected cruciate disease and suggested various treatment options. Toby’s owners elected to go ahead with surgery to repair the cruciate ligament and discharged him the following day with pain relief and antibiotics.
We settled £89.24 for his first vet’s visit just eight working days after it was received, followed by a settlement of £1959.60 for the specialist referral – paid directly to the vet. And being a lifetime policy, any further treatment Toby may require will also be covered within the terms of his policy.
Cover for specialist referrals
As well as covering the cost of the treatment, Agria Pet Insurance also includes cover for travel and accommodation costs if a pet needs to be referred to another veterinary practice. This makes it is easier for you to choose the referral practice you prefer, rather than the nearest.
