Our Rescue Dog of the Week: Bruce

We’re proud sponsors of National Pet Month! Supporting the theme, ‘Pets and the Elderly: enjoying later years together’, we’re helping some of the older rescue dogs out there have an even bigger voice and hopefully find themselves  a ‘forever’ home.

Meet Bruce

Agria’s Rescue Dog of the Week is Bruce, a lovely 10-year-old German Shepherd who’s looking for a new ‘forever’ home.

Allison Clarke from German Shepherd Rescue Elite told us a bit about Bruce:

“This lovely lad had spent the whole of his life in a yard as the family guard dog until coming into rescue last year. He had limited access to people and no interaction with other dogs at all. He was fed and was given a shed to sleep in but that was as far as his comforts went. He wasn’t neutered, vaccinated or chipped.

Since coming in our care, he has enjoyed regular walks thanks to our fantastic volunteers. These have included a couple of large group walks where he’s been a good boy with the other dogs.

Bruce has now been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has also enjoyed a couple of much needed baths.

He will be ten this year, but as he is very spritely with loads of energy you would never know. He’s now just waiting for that special owner to come along to help him use some of his energy up. Could this be you?

Bruce has spent a short time in foster care with two other German Shepherds. He was fine with the more dominant outspoken dog, but the older boy, Fred, was a little scared of Bruce. Bruce tried to boss him around, not in an aggressive way but as Fred is submissive this was not nice for him.

Therefore, Bruce could live with a confident dog or bitch but not ideal for the submissive ones out there.

He has not, to our knowledge, lived with children so teenagers only and it’s a no to cats.

He can be destructive when travelling in the car so a cage would be a good idea, he is also travel sick at times but this is understandable as until he came to us he would have never left his own back yard!

He is a very friendly lad, well-behaved at the vets, loves his toys but will chew them up so you will need a heavy duty supply ready! He loves his KONG!!”
