Help your dog cope this Christmas
During Christmas, dogs often experience stress due to reduced exercise, increased stimulation, and less supervision. Their familiar environment becomes chaotic with decorations and gifts, disrupting their routine. Meanwhile, adults are preoccupied with activities that don't include the dog, leading to further under-exercise and stress.
Caring for pets and their owners since 1890
At Agria we understand that a pet is for life – and your insurance should be too.
That’s why we only offer lifetime pet insurance to our customers, ensuring pets get the best healthcare, for life. We work closely with animal welfare organisations, vets and breeders to make sure pets and owners get the best healthcare and support.
Our mission is to provide the best of care for pets and peace of mind for their owners.
So how can you make sure you all have a merry Christmas?
Your dog's needs don't stop
Ensure your dog gets enough exercise, stimulation, and attention, including daily walks, regardless of the weather.
Try and keep your routine
Dogs often fear unpredictability, so having a consistent routine helps them handle unexpected situations better.
Dogs and children
During Christmas, supervise all interactions between children and dogs. If that's not possible, use baby gates or keep your dog with you.
Give your dog a 'safe space'
Use this space during chaos or when you can't supervise. Provide a special treat to make their 'den' feel inviting, so they don't feel excluded.
Don't let anyone handle your dog inappropriately
Avoid grabbing, hugging, or rough play, especially around alcohol, as drunk people can behave unpredictably from a dog’s perspective.
Watch for signs of stress
This could be lip licking, yawning, showing the whites of their eyes, trying to move away, lowered body language, or attempts to hide.

The most important thing for your dog this Christmas
Perhaps the most important thing you can do, however, is make sure you have some ‘dog time’ every day. Time where you forget about the madness of the season and focus totally on your dog, making sure you give them what they need to be healthy and happy.
This is the very best Christmas present you can give your dog - your time and your love.
Don't forget your special treat!
