World Environment Day: Caring for our pets and the planet

Here at Agria Pet Insurance, providing premium care for our pets means more than offering support during illness or injury. The wellbeing of our pets, and all animals, is tied closely to the health of the natural world. From the quality of the air they breathe, to safe drinking water and stable climates, the environment shapes the lives of animals every day.
That’s why this World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the work we’ve done (and the progress still to come!) to reduce our impact, restore nature, and support a healthier future for pets, people, and our planet.
Five years of carbon commitments
We’re proud that Agria has been carbon negative for five consecutive years. That means we remove more greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere than we produce, every single year.
In 2025, we reached another important milestone: our targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that our climate goals align with the 1.5°C pathway laid out in the Paris Agreement. These are ambitious goals, but we believe they’re essential.
Our Green Team in action
Protecting the environment needs more than just controlling our carbon emissions. Across the UK, our fantastic colleagues have turned big goals into practical action. Over the last year, our teams have:
- Planted trees to support biodiversity, improve soil health and increase carbon capture
- Taken part in river clean ups to reduce pollution and restore habitats
- Led local nature restoration days, getting hands on in our communities, building bat and bird boxes, and tending to young saplings in tree nurseries
These days bring our people together, connect us with the outdoors, and show what’s possible when we act as a team.
We also support wider nature-based climate solutions. Two of these we’re really proud of are the Russas Rainforest project in Brazil, which protects over 100,000 acres of rainforest and the animals that live there and depend on it, and our partnership with the British Bee Veterinary Association. With the BBVA we’ve distributed more than 11,000 wildflower seed packs to vet practices and pet owners across the UK.
These wildflower patches are already helping provide crucial food for pollinators in gardens, balconies, and verges across the country.
Helping pet owners with their pawprints
We know sustainability is a shared journey, so we created the Carbon Hoof and Pawprint Calculator, a free tool for everyone to access.
Over 2,500 people have already used the calculator to make more informed choices for their pets care, from everything around diet, waste, and travel. It's simple, practical, and helps people take their first steps, without judgment.
What’s next?
Sustainability is a key part of caring for our customers and for the future, because we know that protecting pets also means protecting their planet.
We’re proud to keep turning ambition into action, one tree, one team day and one pawprint at a time - stay tuned with our progress here: https://www.agriapet.co.uk/sustainability/
