Meet Tom McEwen
With horses at the heart of family life, it was perhaps inevitable that Tom McEwen would carve out an extraordinary career in the saddle. His mother, Ali, was a talented showjumper, while his father, Bobby, and uncle, John McEwen, are highly respected equine veterinarians. Growing up immersed in the sport, it wasn’t long before Tom was making a name for himself in the saddle.
His talent shone through from an early age, winning Pony European Team Gold in 2007 with Dick Taytoe, before adding Young Rider European Team Gold medals in 2010 with Major Sweep and 2011 with Private Rudolph.
Those early successes laid the foundations for an extraordinary senior career, establishing Tom as one of the world’s leading event riders – he has won Olympic, World and European Championship medals, claimed prestigious five-star victories, including Pau, and risen to World No.1.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to equestrian sport, he was awarded an MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism.
